Mr. Leng Peng Long, Secretary-General of the National Assembly, chaired a meeting to examine the working outcome of the preparation and directions to be implemented for organizing the 9th Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and its executive meetings, which will be held in September and November 2016.

Pursuant to the internal regulation of the APA, the host country of the APA shall organize two plenary sessions for two consecutive years; therefore, the Cambodian parliament is scheduled to host 9th APA Plenary Session again for 2016 after successfully hosting the 8th APA Plenary Session in 2015.

In preparation for the host of the 9th APA Plenary Session, the Secretariat-General of the National Assembly of Cambodia has been busy with preparation for this forthcoming event, including the organization of the two executive meetings of the APA, which is normally held before the plenary session. The First Executive Meeting is planned to run from 25-28 September 2016 in Phnom Penh, while the Second Executive Meeting will be held on the occasion of the 9th APA Plenary Session from 27 November to 02 December 2016 in Siem Reap province.

In order to achieve and take the high responsibility for this work, H.E. Mr. Leng Peng Long asked all concerned officials attending the meeting to pay much attention to fulfilling their duties, and request them to regularly report on the preparatory work they have done to him.

In the meeting, the APA working group reported that to date, the leadership of the National Assembly has established the Organizing Committee of the 9th APA, which is chaired by H.E. Dr. Nguon Nhel, the Second Vice-President of the National Assembly, along with a secretariat led by H.E. Mr. Leng Peng Long, Secretary General of the National Assembly.

The APA working group stressed that it has been implementing its work according to the timetable set, including working on the content of the assembly, making contacts with foreign partners, invitations to participating delegates to the First Executive Meetings, the agendas of the meetings, other services for the plenary, namely hospitality, transportation, information and ICT.

H.E. Mr. Leng Peng Long, Secretary General of the National Assembly, praised the APA working group and further urged the concerned officials to pay greater attention to their duties and responsibilities, and especially to bolster good cooperation so as to successfully organize the 9th Plenary Session again. His Excellency Secretary General of the National Assembly also asked relevant sections to appropriately select staff members to work for the 9th APA plenary session in order to avoid overlapping of roles and duties and overspending.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was born out of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP) in 2006. AAPP was established in 1999, and transformed into the APA, which currently comprises of 42 Member Parliaments, 16 observers and 10 partner organizations.
